What to ask painting applicants
You and your HireBus team set these painting questions during setup, and Iris asks them in each interview:
- Interior, exterior or specialty work. Ask which surfaces and finishes they've worked on and what their part of the project was.
- Prep. Ask how they prepped a room or exterior before painting, including how they protected the customer's property and checked the surface.
- Sprayers and access. Ask which sprayers they've run and what ladders or lifts they've been trained on.
- Crew and weather. Say how big the crews are, where the jobs are and what happens to the schedule on a weather day.
- Pay and hours. Say how pay works and the hours you expect, and ask what training they'd need before taking on a job.
Painting roles to hire for
- Finish painter. Preps surfaces, applies the finish, checks it and works around a homeowner.
- Prep crew / helper. Protects the space, prepares surfaces and learns the equipment.
- Crew lead. Assigns work, plans materials, talks with the customer and closes the punch list.
- Estimator / sales. Runs site visits, writes the scope, explains options and hands the sold job to the crew.

Questions painting owners ask
What happens when seasonal work slows down?
Tell your account team whether to pause active recruiting or keep building a bench for the busy months. A bench uses ad budget and scored-candidate credits. See always-on hiring.
Can we recruit helpers as well as experienced painters?
Yes. Write the helper role on its own, with the duties, the training and who supervises them.
