Hiring window and pressure washing techs before spring

Ladder work on a two-story home, a storefront route with a water-fed pole and a driveway with a surface cleaner take different skills. Iris interviews your applicants by phone about the work they've done before you meet them.

HireBus started in this trade. Brandon Vaughn took over his father's window cleaning business in 2012 and grew it past seventy employees in six seasons (our story). On hiring for the season, he says:

“The winter is the absolute best time to start building a bench… you bring them in a couple of weeks early so that they start getting trained.”Brandon Vaughn, founder of HireBus

What to ask window and pressure washing applicants, and what you check

You and your HireBus team set these window and pressure washing questions during setup, and Iris asks them in each interview:

  • Windows, pressure washing, or both. Say which work this hire will run: residential glass, storefront routes, house washes or flat work.
  • Ladders and safe access. Ask how they set a ladder on a two-story home and when they would stop and call a lead. Your crew lead watches them set one before they work alone.
  • Poles and surface cleaners. Ask which they've run, on what kinds of jobs, and for how long.
  • The spring ramp. “Tell me about your last busy season.” Ask how many stops they ran in a day and what happened on a rain-out.
  • Pay and the truck. Say whether pay is hourly or production, and how weather delays are paid. If they will drive or tow the rig, you check their driving record yourself before an offer.

Window cleaning job description and interview questions

Use the window cleaner job description to set the route, training and seasonal schedule. The matching interview questions cover customer property, safe access and checking the finished glass.

Window and pressure washing roles to hire for

  • Route technician. Sets ladders safely, keeps the route on pace and talks to the homeowner at the door.
  • Crew lead. Has run a two-person crew, kept a route on time and owns the callback.
  • Sales / estimator. Has priced jobs by the window count or the square foot and is comfortable with commission.
  • Office / CSR. Rebooks a rain-out day without losing the customer and keeps each truck's stops close together.

Questions window and pressure washing owners ask

Can Iris interview for a whole spring crew?

Yes. Set up each seat as its own role, such as route tech and crew lead. Plans differ in how many roles they cover, so compare plans first. A plan doesn't guarantee a full crew. You still hold your own interviews and make each hire.

Our season is short. Can we pause?

Yes, between seasons, and your agreement sets the billing terms for a pause. A bench that keeps building through the winter uses ad budget and scored-candidate credits. See always-on hiring.
