A fence company rehash specialist calls homeowners whose fence quotes never signed, finds out why, and sends the estimator back with a fix: another material, a first phase that still closes the yard, or a better date. Before dialing, they make sure the law lets them call or text that number.

A fence quote rarely dies over price alone. Often it waits on a pool, a survey or a house sale, and the specialist's job is to learn which, then call back when that step is done.
Most stalls wait on someone else
Ask what the homeowner is waiting for before offering anything. A pool under construction usually gets its fence near the end of the build. A lot with no corner pins may need a surveyor first. A family buying or selling a house waits for the closing, and a fence shared with a neighbor waits on the neighbor's half. Put the pool builder's finish date, the survey date or the closing date on the file as the next call date.
A cheaper fence that still does the job
A price objection on fence often has an answer that keeps what the homeowner called about. Privacy can move from vinyl to wood, or to a short privacy run only where neighbors look in. A dog yard can use black vinyl-coated chain-link instead of aluminum. Fewer gates, or the homeowner hauling the old fence away, lowers the price too. On a pool job, every swap goes back to the estimator, since the fence still has to pass as a barrier.
A half fence holds nothing
Phasing works for many projects, but a fence that stops halfway won't hold a dog or close off a pool. Plan the first phase so it encloses something on its own: the backyard, say, using the house wall and, with the neighbor's OK, a sound fence on their side. The front-yard run can wait a year. Have the estimator price both phases now, and write down the second phase's price and its expiry date.
South Carolina's calling rules
South Carolina's Telephone Privacy Protection Act covers calls and texts to homes in the state and to cell phones with its area codes. Its exceptions for a quote request within three months or a purchase within 18 don't reach its rules on stop requests and on numbers in the national registry, so check both lists first. Outside those windows, give your full name, the company, a callback number and address, and why you're calling, and offer your do-not-call list. If the homeowner doesn't want to hear it, end the call. Source: South Carolina Code, Title 37, Chapter 21: Telephone Privacy Protection Act.
How much fence company rehash specialists make
The closest BLS group for fence company rehash specialists is telemarketers. Telemarketers who work for specialty trade contractors earned a median of $18.07 an hour ($37,590 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s above the $35,450 median for telemarketers in all industries. About 1,280 of the 58,430 telemarketers in that survey work for specialty trade contractors.
Salary plus a bonus for leads brought back, per the template. Against BLS pay for telemarketers in the contractor group that includes fence companies, the template's floor sits just under their upper quarter and its ceiling clears their top tenth. Decide before the first call whether a quote revived as a smaller first phase earns the full bonus, and whether the second phase earns another when it signs.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Hears whether a stalled fence waits on price, a pool build, a survey or a neighbor
Has sold or booked work for an outdoor home improvement trade
Reads a fence drawing well enough to explain footage, posts and gates by phone
Sets each next call date from the pool, survey or closing date the homeowner gave
Opens each call the way your state's law sets out, and ends it when asked
Teach these on the job
Your fence lines, price tiers and the swaps your estimators approve
How your estimators price gates and removing the old fence
Your state's calling hours and required opening lines
Open install weeks and current lead times
How to book a second visit with the right estimator
The specialist works the CRM's unsigned-quote list, the estimators' drawings and a phone system that records each call and text. For South Carolina numbers, set it to allow calls only from 8 in the morning to 9 at night, the homeowner's time, and to keep each stop request for at least five years.
Fence company rehash specialist interview questions
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Re-engaging lost estimates
A homeowner got a fence quote [3] months ago and never responded. How do you approach them?
A strong answer: Reviews the quote and notes, calls to ask where things stand, finds the real reason and offers options.
Behavioral · Converting leads
Tell me about a lost lead you won back, such as a customer who chose another company first. What worked?
A strong answer: Explains why they reached out, what they offered and how it turned into a sale.
Tag each quote by why the homeowner wanted a fence, such as a pool, a dog or privacy, since each group comes back at its own pace. Give it a full spring before swapping in targets of your own.
Re-engagement calls completed per day
Conversations with homeowners on the unsigned list, from the phone system's log. Dials and voicemails don't count, and a text counts only when the homeowner writes back.
Appointment conversion rate
Second estimates booked, divided by homeowners reached, split by stall reason. A visit counts once the estimator has walked the yard again, not when it's penciled in.
Customer follow-up response rate
Homeowners who answer a call, text or email, out of everyone contacted, by channel and by the quote's age. Keep last fall's quotes and this spring's on separate lines.
Additional revenue generated per month
Signed revenue from revived quotes, with any swap or phase priced in, booked only after the buyer's right to cancel runs out. Add a later phase only when its own contract signs.
Can a rehash specialist give a new price on the phone?
Only one the estimator set. Swaps and phases change the footage, posts and gates, so the estimator reprices first. When South Carolina's act applies, a sales call that offers the job must also give a good-faith estimate of the total cost and the quantity. So read out the full price and the footage, not just a monthly payment or the savings.
How much does a fence company rehash specialist make?
Telemarketers who work for specialty trade contractors earned a median of $18.07 an hour ($37,590 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $34,310 and $46,240 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and overtime.
Should rehash call past fence customers?
Yes, about work that follows a fence: a gate that has started to drag, a second gate, a longer run, or staining a wood fence once the stain maker's label says the boards are ready. Check the calling rules first. South Carolina's act, for one, treats a purchase as an existing relationship for only 18 months, and even then its do-not-call section still applies.
What should a fence rep leave in the CRM for rehash?
The reason it didn't sign, in the homeowner's words. Add who else decides, such as a spouse, a neighbor or an HOA, what they're waiting on and when, the drawing and photos, and any pet, pool or gate needs. A note that only says "thinking about it" sends the specialist in blind.
What does the template's PPE line mean for a rehash specialist?
Now and then the specialist meets an estimator in a yard, or drops off a new drawing with a sample picket and post cap. When a crew is working nearby, that means safety glasses and sturdy shoes around augers and saws. Ship the template's wording as is, describe these errands alongside it, and tell applicants where accommodation requests go.
