An HVAC marketing manager keeps the phones ringing with repair, tune-up and replacement calls. The manager runs search ads, Local Services Ads, mailers, email and reviews, and tracks which source produced booked jobs and sold systems, not just clicks.

HVAC marketing is less about awareness and more about being the company a homeowner calls when the system quits. The weather sets demand, and the job is to catch the rush and fill the slow weeks.
Ad spend follows the forecast
A heat wave or cold snap brings a flood of no-cool and no-heat calls, and a mild week brings very few. A good manager can raise or cut ad spend the same day, pause offers the office can't serve, and make sure the call center is ready before the ads go up.
Local Services Ads need screening first
Google makes a business pass screening and verification to advertise with Local Services Ads. Google counts HVAC as an urgent category, so it also runs background checks on the workers who go to homes. Some businesses are also asked for owner and business background checks, proof of liability insurance, and a state license where one applies. Source: Google Local Services Help: Business screening and verification requirements (United States).
Count booked jobs, not clicks
Many HVAC leads arrive as phone calls. The manager uses call tracking numbers and the CRM to tie each ad, mailer and web form to booked calls, sold jobs and revenue. Listening to recorded calls shows whether a weak source has bad leads or the office isn't booking them. Some states, like California, require everyone on a call to agree to a recording, so tell callers the call is recorded. A cheap lead that never books is not cheap. Source: California Penal Code section 632 (recording calls needs every party's consent).
Financing ads come with disclosure rules
Replacement ads often lead with financing. Under federal Truth in Lending rules, an installment loan ad that names a monthly payment, the number of payments, a down payment or a finance charge must also give the down payment, the repayment terms and the annual percentage rate. Card-style plans and no-interest promotions have their own rules. Have your lender partner check financing ads before they run. Source: CFPB: Regulation Z section 1026.24, advertising.
Past customers fill the slow seasons
Plan members and past customers already trust you. In spring and fall, the manager uses their service history to send tune-up reminders, plan renewals and offers to homes with older systems. That keeps technicians busy between rushes. It also gives the sales team planned replacements, not just emergencies.
How much HVAC marketing managers make
Marketing managers who work for plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning contractors earned a median of $124,540 a year ($59.87 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s below the $166,790 median for marketing managers in all industries. About 410 of the 395,240 marketing managers in that survey work for HVAC and plumbing contractors.
Usually a salary, often with a bonus tied to lead volume, cost per booked job, or revenue sold from marketing leads.

Hire for these
Reads the numbers: cost per lead, booking rate, and sold revenue by source
Runs Google Ads and Local Services Ads, or manages the agency that does
Writes plain ads, mailers, and emails that homeowners act on
Moves budget quickly when the weather turns
Works with the call center and sales team on what happens after the lead
Teach these on the job
Your services, equipment tiers, and seasonal offers
Your maintenance plan and what members get
Your CRM, call tracking, and reports
Your equipment brand's co-op program rules
Which neighborhoods produce your best jobs
Expect Google Ads, Google Business Profile and Local Services Ads, call tracking, an email or text platform, and the CRM in your field service software, such as ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro. Name them in the ad, and say whether the manager runs the ads or manages an agency.
HVAC marketing manager interview questions
They have their own page: 6 questions that test this job, what strong and weak answers sound like, and a work exercise to run with your finalists.
The targets in the template are examples, so set yours from your own history. Report these monthly, and compare each month with the same month last year, since weather moves every number.
Leads Generated
New calls and web leads each month from your call tracking and CRM, split by source, with what you spent on each source next to it. Count only leads in your service area for work you do.
Conversion Rate
Leads that became paying customers, divided by all leads, by source, from your CRM. When it drops, listen to calls before cutting the source. The problem may be booking, not the leads.
Customer Satisfaction Rating
Your average star rating and the number of new reviews each month on Google and the other sites your customers use.
Brand Engagement
Comments, shares, saves and replies on your social posts each month, from each platform's own reports. Compare with the same month last year, and note which posts brought calls.

Should an HVAC company hire a marketing manager or use an agency?
Many companies do both. An agency is good at running ads and building websites. A marketing manager inside the business sees what happens after the click: whether calls got booked, which jobs sold, and which neighborhoods produce good work. If you use an agency, the manager sets the goals, checks the reports, and moves the budget.
How much does an HVAC marketing manager make?
Marketing managers who work for plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning contractors earned a median of $124,540 a year ($59.87 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $96,470 and $159,070 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and bonus terms.
Can an HVAC company offer a reward for online reviews?
Not for Google reviews. Google Business Profile bans discounts, free service or other rewards in exchange for posting, changing or removing a review. The FTC's rule on consumer reviews also bans rewards tied to positive reviews, fake reviews, and reviews from managers, staff or family that hide the connection. Ask every customer for an honest review, not only the happy ones, and never threaten a reviewer or make false claims about them.
What is co-op advertising for HVAC dealers?
Some equipment brands, often through their distributors, offer co-op money that pays for part of a dealer's local ads. Expect to get approval before an ad runs, follow the brand's guidelines, and file a claim afterward. If you have a program, the marketing manager tracks the balance, gets approvals and files the claims so the money doesn't go unused.
Which marketing channels should an HVAC marketing manager run?
Search ads, Local Services Ads, your Google Business Profile and reviews catch homeowners looking for help right now. Mailers and email to past customers bring tune-ups, plan sign-ups and planned replacements. Referrals from happy customers cost little to win. Track every channel by booked jobs and sold revenue, and keep what works in your market.
Does an HVAC marketing manager need HVAC experience?
It helps, but local service marketing matters more. Someone who has run leads for plumbing, roofing or another home service company already knows call tracking, Local Services Ads and seasonal swings. Plan to teach your services, maintenance plan and offers. Have a new manager ride along with a technician and a sales rep early on.
