What makes customer service different in home staging
Most callers don't live in the house they're calling about. A staging CSR books work for agents and builders against listing dates, and the rules on recorded calls, texts and reviews shape how they talk to them.
Find out who signs and who pays
An agent may call, the seller may sign, and a builder's purchasing office may pay for model homes. Before booking the consult, write down who the client is, who approves the design, who gets the invoice and who can open the house. That saves the designer a wasted trip and the bookkeeper a disputed bill.
In New Hampshire, a recorded call needs everyone's consent
If you record calls for training or quality checks, state law matters. New Hampshire makes it a crime to record a phone call without the consent of all parties to it. Get that consent at the start of every recorded call, inbound and outbound, and ask your lawyer how to word it. Rules vary by state, so check each state you serve before turning recording on. Marketing calls to cell phones need written consent
A call or text confirming a booked consult is not the same as one pitching your packages to agents. Under federal rules, marketing calls to cell phones that use an autodialer or a recorded message need the person's prior express written consent. Log how each number came in and every request to stop, and ask your lawyer how the rule treats your texting tool. The FCC took up opt-out changes in September 2026; read the rule as it stands before you start a campaign. Source: eCFR: 47 CFR 64.1200, delivery restrictions.
Review requests can't buy praise
The template rates the CSR on client stars, so the follow-up call often ends with a review request. The FTC's rule bans offering money or other rewards in exchange for reviews that express a particular view, positive or negative. Ask every agent and seller the same way, and never trade a discount on the next listing for a five-star review. Source: eCFR: 16 CFR 465.4, buying positive or negative consumer reviews.
Book the consult with the facts the designer needs
Ask how many rooms the agent wants staged, whether the seller still lives there, the target list date, and whether the client wants full staging or a consult with a written report. Note pets, parking and how to get in. The designer then arrives with the right time block and fewer questions to ask on the doorstep.
How much home staging customer service representatives make
Customer service representatives who work for specialized design firms earned a median of $25.44 an hour ($52,920 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s above the $44,770 median for customer service representatives in all industries. About 1,370 of the 2,595,750 customer service representatives in that survey work for specialized design firms.
Hourly, with bonuses tied to client ratings and booked work. The template's hourly range is well below the middle wage BLS reports for this job at specialized design firms, and its low end trails the bottom tenth, so compare local offers first.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
A friendly, clear phone voice with busy agents and nervous sellers
CRM notes complete enough that anyone can pick up the account
Calendar juggling across several designers and service areas
Calm handling of complaints about a missing piece or a late crew
Short, plain confirmation texts and emails
Teach these on the job
Your staging packages, consult types and what each includes
Listing terms such as coming soon, pending and closing
Your call recording, texting consent and opt-out steps
Which questions go to design, dispatch or billing
Your CRM and scheduling software
The CSR works in a CRM and a shared calendar, plus a phone system that texts and, where you allow it, records calls. Some staging companies let the CSR view the staging software too, so they can see which houses are installed and when pickups are set.
Home staging customer service representative interview questions
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Inbound price calls
A listing agent calls: the home goes on the market next week, and they want your price right now. What do you do?
A strong answer: Gathers the basics (address, size, vacant or occupied, rooms, photo date), explains how pricing works, and books a consultation fast. Gives ranges only if company policy allows.
Behavioral · Keeping everyone informed
Tell me about a time you kept two parties, such as a seller and their agent, informed when plans changed.
A strong answer: Gave both the same facts quickly and in writing, noted who was told and when, and followed up so no one was surprised.
The template's numbers are examples. Review a month of call logs and booked consults first, then set bars that match your mix of agent, builder and seller calls.
Average Call Handling Time
Take talk time plus after-call notes from the phone system for each answered call, averaged by week. Review long calls on their own, since a new builder account can need more time than a booking change.
Callback Rate
Count callers who had to phone again about the same consult, install or bill within a week because something was missed. Tag each repeat call in the CRM with its cause.
Customer Satisfaction Rating
Send the same short survey to the agent or seller after each install and pickup, and average the scores on jobs the CSR booked. Read the comments for patterns.
Lead Conversion Rate
Divide consults that became signed staging contracts by consults the CSR booked in the same period, tracked by source, such as agent referral, builder or website.
Career path
Customer service representativeBooks consults, records who pays and learns which agents call most.
Sales representativeVisits agent offices and builders to win repeat staging work.
Sales managerSets sales targets and leads the reps across a market.
Which tasks fall under the CSR template's 15-pound lifting line?
Light carrying at the front office, such as moving a box of printed brochures, a carton of paper or a sample pillow a designer left at the desk. Sitting or standing at a workstation fills most of the day. Ask each candidate about these tasks the same way, and talk through any change they need.
How much does a home staging customer service representative make?
Customer service representatives who work for specialized design firms earned a median of $25.44 an hour ($52,920 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $45,020 and $60,060 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and overtime.
What price can a staging CSR give before the consult?
Give the consult fee and what it includes, plus any starting price the owner has approved for common packages. The full staging price depends on the rooms, the furniture the designer picks and how long the house stays staged, so the designer or sales rep sets it. Write what you quoted in the CRM so the designer doesn't contradict it.
When should a staging CSR follow up after a job?
Call or text the agent the day after the install to ask whether anything is missing or out of place, and pass fixes to dispatch. Check in again after pickup to confirm nothing was left behind or damaged. Two short contacts catch problems before they turn into a low rating or a repeat call.
Does a home staging CSR need real estate knowledge?
It helps. Agents talk in listing stages: coming soon, active, pending, closed. A CSR who knows them can tell when a house will need its pickup and whether a rush install is truly urgent. You can teach the words in the first week. Staying calm with a stressed seller is harder to teach, so test for it in the interview.
