A window cleaning sales manager builds and coaches the team that quotes homes, keeps the price list and discount rules, and answers for the monthly sales number. The hard part is filling spring without booking more glass than the crews can clean, and turning one-time cleans into recurring plans.

What makes window cleaning sales management different
Sales managers everywhere answer for a number. Here most of it is made in a few spring months, and it must fit what the crews can clean.
A year's selling squeezed into spring
Spring demand arrives all at once. The manager pre-sells it in late winter, renewing plan customers and booking early dates, then steers late-spring buyers toward summer dates and fall gutter work as crew weeks fill. New reps need their hiring and training done before the rush starts.
The plan beats the one-time clean
A single spring clean is one ticket. A spring-and-fall or quarterly plan books future work without buying another lead. The manager decides how reps are rewarded for plans versus one-time jobs, and tracks how many plans renew each year, since a plan that lapses after one visit is a one-time job.
Many small quotes, answered fast
A window cleaning ticket is small next to a roof or a furnace, so the team wins on volume and speed. The manager decides which homes can be quoted from photos and which need a visit, and sets how fast a web quote request gets a price. In April, a slow reply can mean the homeowner already booked someone else.
Door knocking has local rules
If your reps knock doors near scheduled jobs, check each town first. Arden Hills, Minnesota, for example, makes every person who goes door to door to sell services get a permit from the city clerk and go through a background check. The FTC's door-to-door sales rule leaves state laws and local ordinances in force. Source: City of Arden Hills, Minnesota: Solicitors and peddlers licenses.
Where reps sell changes overtime
Under federal law, a rep who mainly sells at customers' homes may be exempt from overtime as an outside salesperson. Selling from a desk by phone, mail or online doesn't qualify, and the DOL treats a home office used for phone sales as one of the employer's places of business. Residential vs. commercial window cleaning sales management
Both jobs lead a team toward a revenue goal. What the team sells, and how it gets priced, are different.

How much window cleaning sales managers make
Sales managers who work for building and home services companies earned a median of $99,910 a year ($48.04 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s below the $148,270 median for sales managers in all industries. About 1,470 of the 637,080 sales managers in that survey work for building services companies.
A base salary plus bonus and commission eligibility, per the template. Since most revenue lands in spring, paying some of the bonus on full-year results keeps the manager building fall and winter work.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
A record of hitting team sales goals in home services or another quoted, in-home sale
Coaching phone closers by listening to recorded calls with them
Comfort with the numbers: close rate by source, average ticket, plan renewals
Building a price list that covers stories, panes and add-ons without confusing homeowners
Recruiting a spring sales crew every winter, part-time canvassers included
Teach these on the job
The services and add-ons you sell, and what drives each price
What a crew can clean in a day, by house type
Canvassing permit rules in each town you cover
How a commercial bid differs from a home quote
Your plan renewal process and reminders
Day to day, the manager works in the quoting and CRM system, such as ResponsiBid paired with Jobber, and listens to recorded sales calls for coaching. Ask candidates to bring a sales report they built in a past job and walk you through the decision it led to.
Window cleaning sales manager interview questions
They have their own page: 6 questions that test this job, what strong and weak answers sound like, and a work exercise to run with your finalists.
For year one, the template's figures will do. After that, rebuild every target around your own monthly sales history.
Monthly revenue target
Sold revenue per month from the CRM, set against the month's goal. Count only jobs that are cleaned or firmly scheduled, and take spring cancellations back out.
Lead conversion rate
Booked jobs as a share of quotes given. Split web, referral and door-knock quotes, because each closes at its own rate.
Customer satisfaction rating
Survey scores sorted by which rep sold the job. When one rep's customers keep scoring low, check whether that rep is promising more than the crews deliver.
Sales growth
Compare each quarter's invoices with the same months a year before. Spring usually outsells winter, so quarter-to-quarter swings say little about real growth.

At what point does a window cleaning business need a sales manager?
Usually when the owner is still setting every price and coaching every rep, and spring leads are going unanswered or unclosed. Hire in the fall or early winter, so the manager can recruit and train reps and fix the price list before the spring phones start.
How much does a window cleaning sales manager make?
Sales managers who work for building and home services companies earned a median of $99,910 a year ($48.04 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $73,930 and $143,320 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and bonus terms.
Should the sales manager also run marketing?
Not at this size. A marketing manager brings in leads through ads, mailers and the website; the sales manager turns them into booked work. They should meet weekly, because the sales manager sees which lead sources close and which waste the reps' time.
Is early-bird spring pricing worth offering?
It can fill April before the phones ring and give crews set routes. Keep the offer small and time-limited, tie it to a recurring plan rather than a one-time clean, and end it once the first weeks are full. A discount that runs all spring just lowers prices on work you would have sold anyway.
Who should handle commercial accounts?
If you also clean storefronts or office buildings, decide whether those bids sit with this manager or with a separate commercial rep. Building owners want written bids, contracts and proof of coverage, which makes it a slower sale than a homeowner quote. Give it its own pipeline and goal either way.
