Siding callers are homeowners about to spend a lot on the outside of their house. The notes a CSR takes on the first call shape the estimate visit that follows.
The estimate needs every owner at the table
Siding is often sold in a single visit, so book the estimate for a time when everyone who signs will be home. Ask who else owns the house, and confirm both names on the reminder call. A visit with one owner away often turns into a second trip and a cooler lead.
Storm calls start with the date and the claim
After hail or high wind, ask when it happened, which sides of the house were hit, whether pieces are missing or only cracked, and whether the homeowner has filed a claim. Note the claim number and any adjuster visit. Flag missing pieces that leave the wall open so someone can get out quickly and keep water out.
Some houses need a review board first
In Charleston, South Carolina, no one may change the outside look of a building in the Old and Historic District that can be seen from a public right-of-way until the Board of Architectural Review approves it. The city counts the kind and color of the building material as part of that look. Ask early whether the house sits in a historic district. That can change the product, the timeline and what the estimator brings. Source: City of Charleston zoning ordinance, Part 6: Old and Historic District regulations (example).
Warped vinyl isn't always the siding's fault
A homeowner who calls about melted or warped vinyl may be seeing sunlight bounced off a neighbor's low-e window. The vinyl siding makers' trade group says this is not caused by the siding, and that damage from excessive conditions is not normally covered by warranties, though each maker's terms differ. Book a visit with photos and send it to whoever handles warranty claims instead of promising a free fix. Source: Polymeric Exterior Products Association: Solar reflection.
A patch job starts with the product name
Small repair calls go better when you know the brand, style and color first. Ask whether leftover pieces or boxes are in the garage or attic, since their labels name the product. Ask for a daylight photo of the wall. Older siding fades, so say up front that a close match may mean redoing a whole side.
How much siding customer service representatives make
Customer service representatives who work for foundation, structure, and building exterior contractors earned a median of $22.86 an hour ($47,540 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s above the $44,770 median for customer service representatives in all industries. About 2,010 of the 2,595,750 customer service representatives in that survey work for structure and exterior contractors.
Usually hourly with a quarterly bonus, sometimes tied to booked estimates that close. BLS puts the typical CSR wage at siding and other exterior contractors above the template's hourly range, so check what nearby employers offer.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
A warm, steady voice with homeowners worried about cost
Booking accuracy: names, address, every owner and the right time
Notes a sales rep can read in the truck before walking in
Working a CRM and a shared calendar at the same time
Asking follow-up questions without sounding scripted
Teach these on the job
Siding words: lap, shake, board and batten, soffit, fascia, trim
The products and colors you sell
Your storm and warranty call steps
How to check whether an address sits in a historic district
Your reminder and feedback call scripts
Siding companies book estimates in a CRM such as Leap, JobNimbus or Salesforce, usually linked to a phone system that logs each call and texts reminders. List both in the job post, along with whether the role covers texting and email with homeowners too.
Siding customer service representative interview questions
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Handling wind damage calls
A customer calls after a windstorm: several pieces of siding your company installed blew off. What do you do?
A strong answer: Gets photos and details, checks the warranty, opens a service ticket, advises gathering loose pieces only from the ground, gives an honest time frame and follows up.
Behavioral · Owning mistakes
Tell me about a time you told a siding customer something wrong, such as the color on order, the start date or what the warranty covers. How did you fix it?
A strong answer: Called the customer back quickly, owned the mistake, gave the right information, told the team and changed a habit such as checking the job file first.
The template's numbers are only samples. Draw better targets from your own call logs, and compare a week right after a storm with an ordinary one.
Appointment Scheduling Accuracy
Count booked appointments that had to be moved or were wasted because of a wrong address, wrong time, a missing owner or the wrong product. Review them with sales each week.
Customer Satisfaction Rating
Ask every homeowner the same few survey questions after an install or service visit, and track the monthly average. Read the comments too, since they often name the CSR or the crew.
Call Response Time
Pull the time to answer for each inbound call from your phone system, and study the worst hours of the day, not only the daily average.
Callback Rate
Track calls that end without an answer or a booked next step and need another call. Tag the reason so you can fix the script or the facts the CSR was missing.

What lifting or site work comes with a siding CSR job?
The lifting line covers tasks like carrying sample boards, color fans and boxes of brochures to the showroom or a home show booth. A site visit, when it happens, might mean dropping off a form or looking at a problem with a manager. Otherwise the job is seated work with a headset and the CRM.
How much does a siding customer service representative make?
Customer service representatives who work for foundation, structure, and building exterior contractors earned a median of $22.86 an hour ($47,540 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $39,850 and $56,430 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and overtime.
How should a siding CSR handle home show leads?
Call them the same day or the next morning, while the visit is fresh. Confirm what they looked at, whether they own the house, and when every owner can meet a rep. Tag the show in the CRM so the owner can see which events turn into sales and which only fill the call list.
How much product knowledge does a siding CSR need?
Enough to answer basic questions without guessing: the difference between vinyl, insulated vinyl and fiber cement, which colors and styles you carry, and what an estimate visit covers. Price, product picks and warranty terms belong to the sales rep. A CSR who promises a price or a color on the phone sets up a hard visit.
Can one CSR handle the calls after a big storm?
Rarely. Plan help before it happens: a part-time helper, an answering service for overflow, or office staff trained to take calls during the first weeks. Give everyone the same intake form so notes look alike, and have the CSR call back anyone the overflow team couldn't book.
