An appliance repair sales manager wins and keeps the accounts that send repeat repairs: home warranty networks, property managers, landlords, builders and appliance dealers. They lead the reps who sell those accounts and the company's repair plans, and set account rates that still pay once a tech is standing at the unit.

Most homeowners call when something breaks, and no salesperson is involved. The sales team works the other side: accounts that send many repairs a year, and plans that bring a homeowner back.
Home warranty networks choose the shop, then watch it
Home warranty companies recruit repair shops into their networks. Frontdoor, for example, tells pros it sends paid jobs, not leads, and pays in as little as ten business days after submission. Choice Home Warranty tells contractors that their performance in the field decides how much work they get. So the manager's part is the application, the appliances and zip codes you agree to cover, and the terms. After that, the volume rides on the techs. Property managers buy by the work order
A property manager or landlord with many units wants one vendor who can get into an occupied unit, fix the dishwasher and bill the office, not the tenant. Expect a vendor packet first, such as a W-9 and proof of insurance, and then a spending limit on each work order. The manager agrees how techs get approval above that limit, who sets times with tenants, and how the shop handles the rush when units turn over.
Dealers and builders hand off what they don't do
Appliance stores without a service department and builders with new owners' punch lists both get repair calls they can't run themselves. Either can become a steady source of installs, first-year problems and out-of-warranty repairs. Agree in writing who books the call, who pays, and what happens when the fault turns out to be covered by the maker's warranty, so a homeowner isn't billed for a repair the brand should pay.
Revenue per hour sets the floor for a rate
Account work can lift the template's revenue per hour or sink it. One refrigerator across town at a flat account rate earns little for the drive. Five units at one apartment complex in a single visit earn far more. Price account work by drive time and job type, and offer a better rate where the account can group several units into one stop.
How much appliance repair sales managers make
Sales managers who work for household goods repair shops earned a median of $104,200 a year ($50.10 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s below the $148,270 median for sales managers in all industries. About 180 of the 637,080 sales managers in that survey work for household goods repair shops.
The template pays a base salary and commission. Write down whether commission pays on a new account's first year only or for as long as it stays, and whether volume from accounts signed before the manager arrived counts.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Has sold service agreements to property managers, landlords or other businesses
Prices account work from drive time, job mix and parts, not from a rival's rate card
Coaches reps to sell plans without promising coverage the plan doesn't give
Reads a home warranty or vendor contract and finds who pays when a repair is denied
Tells the general manager and dispatch before a big account starts sending calls
Teach these on the job
Appliance types, and which repairs often need a second trip for parts
Each home warranty network's application and contract terms
Your plans' coverage, price and cancellation terms
How your field service software bills an account instead of a homeowner
Which brands your techs are authorized for
The team works in a CRM for account prospects and plan renewals, the account billing screens of your job software, and the vendor portals property managers use for work orders. A candidate who has billed through those portals will need less training.
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Stopping pressure selling
A rep's plan sales are high, but customers say they were told repairs wouldn't be done unless they bought a plan. What do you do?
A strong answer: Investigates, corrects it with customers and refunds where fair, coaches or disciplines the rep, fixes the script and monitors calls.
Behavioral · Coaching reps
Tell me about coaching a rep whose repair plan sales came with too many cancellations or complaints.
A strong answer: Found the weak step, such as explaining coverage and exclusions clearly, practiced it with the rep, and tracked sales alongside cancellations and complaints.
Read account revenue and plan revenue on separate lines. Set the template's sample targets from your own first two quarters.
Revenue per hour
For each account each month, what it paid divided by the tech time it took, travel included. A large account below the company average needs a new rate or a better route.
New Sales
New accounts signed and plans sold each quarter, valued at a year of expected revenue. Hold it against last year's matching quarter, and drop any account that never sent a call.
Customer Satisfaction Rating
Ratings from homeowners and tenants on account and plan jobs, plus a short check-in each quarter with every account's main contact. Log their complaints by cause.
Leads generated
New businesses and homeowners added to the CRM each week who fit what you sell, such as a property manager with units in your service area. A company with five contacts is still one lead.
Does an appliance repair company need a sales manager?
Only when repeat work from businesses or plans is part of the plan. A shop that lives on homeowners calling in can leave sales to the CSRs and marketing. Once property managers, landlords, dealers or a plan program bring a real share of the calls, someone has to win those accounts, price them and keep them, and that's this job.
How much does an appliance repair sales manager make?
Sales managers who work for household goods repair shops earned a median of $104,200 a year ($50.10 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $71,630 and $137,010 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and bonus terms.
Who looks after an account once it signs?
Split it. The sales manager owns the contract, the rate and the yearly review with the account. Dispatch and the general manager own day-to-day service. Hold a short monthly check on each large account's calls, complaints and money owed, so the sales manager hears about trouble before the account starts calling another shop.
What should a property management agreement cover?
Beyond the approval limit, write down which units and appliances it covers, how fast you'll arrive, and how you'll report a wait for parts. Add where invoices go and when they're paid. Also agree what happens when a repair would cost more than a new appliance: who decides, and whether you quote the replacement.
How should reps be rewarded for home warranty accounts?
With care, since the rep has no say in the volume once the network approves you. One option is a one-time reward for getting the account approved and live, with nothing on later volume. If you pay ongoing commission, tie it to money collected, not to calls dispatched, so a rep never gains from a job the shop loses money on.
