A basement waterproofing marketing manager books homeowners with wet basements, cracked walls and damp crawl spaces onto the inspectors' calendars. They judge every source by what a set appointment and a held sale cost, have rain campaigns ready before the wet season, and check each loan and warranty claim before an ad runs.

Homeowners call after they find water, and an inspector has to sit with them at home before anyone signs. So this marketing manager buys appointments, not clicks, and answers for what each ad promises about loans and warranties.
Cost per set appointment, then per held sale
In this trade a lead is only worth counting once the call center books a visit with every owner home and an inspector sits down with them. Agree with the call center on when a lead counts as set. Then report each source, from search and TV to mail and agents who found water during a home sale, by cost per set appointment and cost per sold job that held. Take out renters, homes outside your area and repeat calls from one address before you do the math.
Rain ads ready before the rain
Searches for a wet basement or a sump pump that won't shut off jump after heavy rain and fast snowmelt. Keep a rain kit approved in advance: ads, a landing page and a call script, plus part of the budget held for that week. Before switching it on, ask the call center how many inspection slots are open, since a homeowner with water on the floor may not wait a week. Between storms, spend on proof: install photos, short videos and mail to streets where inspectors keep finding water.
Payment ads have trigger terms
For an installment loan ad, Regulation Z lists four trigger terms: a down payment amount or percentage, the number of payments or repayment period, a payment amount, and a finance charge amount. "Pay over 60 months" is one. Once a trigger appears, the ad has to add the down payment, how repayment works across the whole term, and the "annual percentage rate" by that exact name, noting if it can rise. The official comments say "no downpayment" and "monthly payments to suit your needs" trigger nothing. Source: eCFR: 12 CFR 1026.24, Regulation Z advertising rules (closed-end credit).
A lifetime warranty has to name the life
FTC guides say that when an ad describes how long a warranty lasts with "lifetime," "life" or a similar word, it should disclose the life it means, clearly enough that buyers notice it. For a waterproofing system, it might be as long as you own the home, or the life of the house through every sale. The same guides say to advertise a warranty only if you promptly and fully do what it promises. If a new owner must register or pay to transfer it, say so beside the claim. Source: eCFR: 16 CFR Part 239, FTC Guides for the Advertising of Warranties and Guarantees.
Before-and-after photos need permission
Basement photos show the inside of a home. Get written permission, in the contract or a separate release, before a before-and-after pair goes in an ad. Shoot tight on the wall, floor or pit, and leave out family pictures, mail and anything that shows where the house is. A person in the frame needs more. New York, for example, makes it a misdemeanor to use a living person's name, portrait, picture, likeness or voice for advertising or trade without written consent, from a parent or guardian for a minor. How much basement waterproofing marketing managers make
Marketing managers who work for building finishing contractors earned a median of $106,040 a year ($50.98 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s below the $166,790 median for marketing managers in all industries. About 240 of the 395,240 marketing managers in that survey work for building finishing contractors.
The template offers salary plus a performance bonus. Pay that bonus on jobs still sold once the cancellation window closes and the loan funds, because a quarter full of leads that never got a sit-down visit costs money and earns nothing.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Has bought leads for an in-home sales company and reported cost per sold job
Builds rain campaigns ahead of time that can go live in a day
Listens to booking calls to learn why leads don't set
Gets photo permission into the contract and the crews' photo routine
Spots loan and warranty wording that needs a disclosure
Teach these on the job
How drains, pumps, wall braces and crawl space liners solve different problems
Your lenders' approved ad wording
What your warranty covers and leaves out
Your CRM's lead source codes and call tracking
Which towns and decades of houses send the most water calls
Expect a tracked phone number for each channel, paid search, and the in-home sales CRM where every lead is marked set, sat and sold. A radar or rain alert feed helps time the rain kit, and home show slips should reach the same CRM within a day, coded to the show.
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Avoiding fear-based claims
The sales team wants ads warning that toxic mold is making families sick, to drive calls. What do you do?
A strong answer: Pushes back on health claims the company can't support, offers honest educational messages about water and moisture, and gets owner buy-in.
Behavioral · Optimizing campaigns
Tell me about a digital campaign for wet basement repair that you improved week by week. What did you change?
A strong answer: Names specific tests, such as ad copy, landing page or targeting, what the numbers showed each week, and the final cost per booked appointment.
Rain makes some quarters easy and others thin. Hold each quarter up against the same quarter last year before you decide whether a target was met.
Lead Generation
Count leads that could become a sat appointment: an owner, inside your area, with a problem you fix. Report them by source each quarter, with wet and dry months marked.
Conversion Rate
Use one definition all year: sold jobs still standing after the cancellation window, over qualified leads, for each source. Show the set and sat steps in between.
Customer Satisfaction
Star ratings across review sites, plus a short survey after the visit for homeowners who didn't buy. That second group shows whether an ad set the wrong expectations.
Campaign ROI
Revenue from a campaign's jobs that held, minus everything it cost, including booth fees, design and the lender fees on financed promotions. Judge it once those jobs are installed.
Career path
Marketing coordinatorRuns home show booths, lead slips and ad proofs.
Marketing managerOwns the budget, lead sources and cost per sold job.
Director of marketingAdds more markets, and at some companies the call center.
General managerTakes on sales, installs and the office for one market.
Yes, if it's really free. If it comes with conditions, such as owning the home or having every owner at the visit, the FTC's guide to "free" offers says to state them clearly at the outset of the offer, in close conjunction with it. A footnote reached by an asterisk doesn't count as the outset. The call center should then repeat those terms when it books the visit.
How much does a basement waterproofing marketing manager make?
Marketing managers who work for building finishing contractors earned a median of $106,040 a year ($50.98 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $78,220 and $134,600 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and bonus terms.
Can a waterproofing ad say "no interest"?
Only with the plan's terms beside it. For a revolving plan with deferred interest, Regulation Z says an ad that uses "no interest" or a similar phrase must say "if paid in full" before the promo period, right next to each mention in print or online. It must also say that if the balance isn't paid in full in time, interest will be charged from the date the homeowner became obligated for it. Ask the lender which kind of plan you're selling before anyone writes the ad.
Do radio and TV financing ads follow the same rules?
They have a shorter path. A broadcast ad that names a trigger term can state the annual percentage rate, and whether it can go up, and give a toll-free number homeowners can call for the other cost details. Send every financing script to the lender whose plan it names and keep their written approval in the ad file. Advertise only the plans your CFO lets sales offer.
What should a home show lead slip ask for?
Name, address, phone, email, what the homeowner is seeing (water, cracks, a damp crawl space) and a good time to visit. If you plan to text or use a dialer later, add consent wording your lawyer approved, with the homeowner's signature and number; the rehash specialist will rely on it months later. Code each slip to the show and day.
