A floor coating rehash specialist picks up garage and basement estimates that didn't sell and learns what stopped each one: the price, the season, a garage that isn't cleared or a slab that has to wait. They book a second visit or a new date, and keep a dated list of floors on hold until each can go ahead.

Few homeowners turn down a coated floor outright. They wait to clear the garage, wait for spring, wait on a cheaper quote, or wait on a slab that isn't ready. Each of those leaves a file the specialist can pick back up, under calling rules that change from state to state.
The garage has to be empty first
A floor can't go down until the garage is cleared, and clearing years of tools, bikes and boxes is the job many homeowners put off. Ask what's still in there, and offer a date far enough out to finish. Ask too what the lower quote they're holding includes: diamond grinding or an acid wash, how many coats, full flake or a light sprinkle, and which topcoat. Anything that needs a new price goes back to the rep.
Slabs on hold come back on a date
Some floors wait on the slab itself. A new garage slab has to cure before it's coated, and a damp one may need a primer or moisture barrier the homeowner balked at. Keep these on their own list, with the date each one can go ahead from the coating's data sheet or the lead's notes. Call on that date, and leave any change in price to the rep.
An October estimate needs a spring OK
Under the FTC's telemarketing rule, an estimate request opens 90 days in which you may make sales calls to a number listed on the national do-not-call registry, and a purchase opens 540. A garage estimated in October is past the 90 days by March. If the number is on that registry, a spring call needs the homeowner's signed OK to be called by your company at that number, so get it when they say to call back after winter. A stop request ends the calls either way. Source: eCFR: 16 CFR 310.4, Telemarketing Sales Rule do-not-call provisions.
Some states add registration
Wisconsin is one example. A business whose staff make sales calls or texts to people there must register with the state each year, and every registration runs out on November 30. The state doesn't count a call the homeowner asked for, or a call to a current client, as a solicitation. Its rule notes that a "we'll call unless you say no" line isn't a request, so log the homeowner's own words when they ask to hear back. Source: Example state: Wisconsin Administrative Code ATCP 127.81, telephone solicitor registration.
Plain-word replies can mean stop
FCC rules let a homeowner withdraw consent to marketing robotexts and robocalls in any reasonable way. A reply of stop, quit, cancel or unsubscribe counts, and so does "we went with someone else, no more texts" if a reasonable person would read it as a stop. Honor it within ten business days at the latest. One confirmation text, sent right away and with no sales pitch, is allowed. The FCC took up changes in September 2026; check the current rule. How much floor coating rehash specialists make
The closest BLS group for floor coating rehash specialists is telemarketers. Telemarketers who work for building finishing contractors earned a median of $17.30 an hour ($35,980 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s about the same as the $35,450 median for telemarketers in all industries. About 320 of the 58,430 telemarketers in that survey work for building finishing contractors.
Salary plus commission on revived sales, per the template. In this page's BLS figures for building finishing contractors, fewer than one in four telemarketers reach even the template's lowest salary. The gap buys someone who can answer homeowners' questions about grinding, coats and flake, so look for in-home or showroom sales experience over call center work. A salary doesn't settle overtime: keep time records unless your lawyer says the job is exempt.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Asks what's still in the garage and what the other quote includes
Keeps a dated list of floors waiting on a cure or a moisture fix
Tracks each estimate's calling window through the winter
Reads a stop request in any wording and logs it the same day
Hands the rep clear notes when a homeowner wants a new price
Teach these on the job
The coating systems you sell and how they differ
How a diamond grind differs from an acid etch, and why it matters
Your CRM's lost-estimate stages and hold list
The calling and texting rules in each state you serve
The options the sales manager has priced, such as one bay or a solid color
The lists come from the CRM: estimates that didn't sell, with the rep's photos and measurements, and floors on hold with the date each can go ahead. Before any number is dialed, the calling software should check it against a registry download no more than 31 days old, as the FTC's safe harbor asks, plus its inquiry or purchase date and your own stop list.
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Do-it-yourself objections
A lead went quiet because a store-bought kit costs much less. How do you approach the callback?
A strong answer: Explains the differences in prep and products in plain words without trashing the kit, and respects their choice.
Behavioral · Reviving leads
Tell me about a lead you revived months after they went quiet. What made them buy?
A strong answer: Explains why they called when they did, what they said, and what changed the customer's mind.
Many fall estimates come back to life in spring, so read these numbers by season rather than week by week. Set your own targets after your first spring.
Revenue Growth
Paid revenue from floors rehash brought back, booked in the month each floor went down. When weather pushes installs into the next month, note it, since that shifts revenue rather than losing it.
Callback Rate
How long homeowners who call or text back wait for the specialist's reply, from phone and CRM time stamps. Count replies that missed the same business day against all returned calls and texts.
Conversion Rate
Lost estimates that booked a second visit or a confirmed install date, out of those where the specialist reached the homeowner. Split the count by garage, basement and commercial floors.
Customer Satisfaction
A short survey after the second visit, sent to buyers and non-buyers alike. Read any complaint about the calls themselves with the sales manager that same week.
What does the rehash template's 10-pound line cover?
The occasional trip out. The specialist may bring a flake chart, a few sample boards and a tablet to a homeowner who wants to see colors again before rebooking, or drop off a revised proposal. Most days are spent at a desk on the phone. Write the sample visits into the posting under the template's lines, and give a contact for accommodation requests.
How much does a floor coating rehash specialist make?
Telemarketers who work for building finishing contractors earned a median of $17.30 an hour ($35,980 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $31,460 and $39,570 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and overtime.
Can a rehash specialist use an AI voice or a recorded message?
Not without the right consent. The FCC ruled in 2024 that AI-generated voices count as artificial voices under the TCPA. So a sales call that uses one, or a recorded message, to a cell phone or a home line needs the homeowner's prior express written consent. The homeowner signs it, it lists the number, and it states that they don't have to sign to buy. A live person who dials and talks avoids that rule, though not the do-not-call rules.
When does an open estimate move from the rep to rehash?
Set the rule in writing. Many companies give the rep a set number of days and one or two follow-ups, then move the file to rehash with notes on who was at the table, what was quoted and what stopped the sale. A homeowner who named a firm date to decide stays with the rep.
What can rehash offer a homeowner who said the price was too high?
Only options the sales manager priced in advance, such as coating one bay now and the other later, a solid color in place of flake, or leaving out the stem walls. Don't make up a reason the price is good only today. If the homeowner wants a different system or a bigger area, the rep writes a new proposal.
