Where gutter rehash work gets specific

A lost gutter estimate often means not yet, not at that price, or not before the leaves fall. Every follow-up call and text still has to follow the calling rules.

  • Indiana keeps its own do-not-call list

Indiana's attorney general runs a state do-not-call list apart from the federal one and issues a new list each quarter. Home improvement contractors aren't among the exempt callers, and the 18-month customer exception covers only banks, state-licensed lenders and broadband providers. A call the homeowner asked for is exempt, so log each callback request with the date and who made it, and scrub Indiana numbers against the current list. • Evening calls stop at 9

The template has the specialist call some evenings to catch homeowners after work. The FCC's rule lets these sales calls reach residential lines only from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., by the clock where the person you're calling is. Set the dialer by each lead's location rather than the office clock, and stop the evening block on time. Source: eCFR: 47 CFR 64.1200, telemarketing and calling restrictions.

  • A stop reply ends the texts

Under the FCC's rule, texting back words like stop, end, revoke or opt out is a valid way to withdraw consent, and the caller has up to ten business days to honor it. You can't make homeowners use one set method to opt out. Mark the lead in the CRM the same day. The FCC took up changes in September 2026; check the current rule. Source: eCFR: 47 CFR 64.1200, telemarketing and calling restrictions.

  • The first fall overflow reopens the guard talk

A homeowner who passed on guards in April may pick up in October, after the gutters spill over in the first fall rain. Sort lost guard quotes by neighborhood and tree cover, and call before the leaves come down. Ask what has changed since the estimate, not whether they're ready to buy.

  • Some tried a guard themselves

Some homeowners pass on a guard quote to try snap-in guards from a home center. Don't run those down. Ask how they held up through the first leaf season and whether the homeowner wants a rep to take a look. If the gutters themselves sag or leak, the visit becomes a replacement estimate.

How much gutter rehash specialists make

The closest BLS group for gutter rehash specialists is telemarketers. Telemarketers who work for foundation, structure, and building exterior contractors earned a median of $17.09 an hour ($35,560 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s about the same as the $35,450 median for telemarketers in all industries. About 140 of the 58,430 telemarketers in that survey work for structure and exterior contractors.

Base pay plus commission on reopened estimates that close, with bonuses for beating targets. Payouts also hinge on how customers rate the work and how few callbacks follow, so a rushed resale that ends in a callback costs the specialist.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach

Hire for these

  • A friendly phone voice that asks questions instead of pitching
  • Logs each call, text and opt-out in the CRM before moving on
  • Can hear no and call back months later at a better time
  • A basic sense of gutter sizes, guard types and why quotes differ
  • Follows calling rules without reminders

Teach these on the job

  • Your guard lineup and what each one handles well
  • Indiana's do-not-call list and your scrub routine
  • How to read a rep's estimate notes and photos
  • Your seasonal call calendar
  • Booking estimate visits on the reps' calendars

The job runs on the CRM, a phone line that keeps a record of every call and text, and a do-not-call scrub list. Ask candidates which dialers they've used and how they recorded opt-outs there.

Gutter rehash specialist interview questions

Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.

  1. Situational · Reopening stalled quotes

You call a homeowner who got a gutter and guard quote in the spring but never booked. They say they'll just keep cleaning the gutters themselves. What do you say?

A strong answer: Respects their choice, asks what's changed since the quote, such as overflow or sagging, offers a gutters-only option or updated price, and leaves the door open without pressure.

  2. Behavioral · Adjusting the approach

Tell me about a time your call script for old gutter or guard quotes wasn't working. What did you change?

A strong answer: Noticed it early from their own numbers, tested a change such as a new opening question, call timing or a simpler offer, told their manager and tracked whether results improved.

Gutter rehash specialist KPIs

The template's rehash targets are guesses until you have data. Rework them once you've worked a full year of your own lost leads. Fall guard calls and spring gutter calls will close at different rates.

Lead Conversion Rate
Lost estimates the specialist reopened that turned into signed jobs, divided by all the lost estimates they worked. Count a sale once the deposit clears.
Follow-up Completion Rate
Scheduled follow-ups done on or before their due date, from the CRM task list. A call skipped because the number is on a do-not-call list counts as done, with the reason noted.
Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT)
Survey scores from rehashed customers after install, read beside scores for first-time buyers. A gap can mean the resale promised something the first quote didn't.
Average Response Time
Time from a lead being marked lost, or a homeowner replying, to the specialist's first contact, using CRM time stamps.
30/60/90-day ramp expectations
Track conversion at each checkpoint on the leads the specialist actually worked, and compare it with what the desk did in the same months last year.

Gutter rehash specialist FAQ

What does the rehash template's 20-pound lifting line mean?

It covers office tasks: moving a box of mailers or brochures, carrying a guard sample or a short gutter section to a meeting, and restocking the sample shelf. The job is mostly phone and desk work with little travel, and none of it involves ladders or install work.

How much does a gutter rehash specialist make?

Telemarketers who work for foundation, structure, and building exterior contractors earned a median of $17.09 an hour ($35,560 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $31,340 and $36,720 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and overtime.

Which lost gutter estimates should a rehash specialist call first?

Start with estimates a rep measured in the last few months, where the notes show the homeowner liked the plan but stalled on price, timing or a spouse. Next come guard quotes in leafy neighborhoods ahead of fall. Take homes that have since sold, and anyone who asked not to be called, off the list. Lost builder bids go to the sales manager, not rehash.

Should a rehash specialist change the price on a lost gutter quote?

No. Pricing stays with the rep and the sales manager. The specialist finds out what stopped the sale, then books a rep to update the quote if the house, the product or the price list has changed. An old quote may be out of date anyway, so let the rep confirm the number before the homeowner hears it.

What should a rehash specialist say when the homeowner hired another gutter company?

Thank them and ask how the new gutters handled the last heavy rain. If they're happy, ask whether they'd like a guard quote for the new system, or whether a neighbor might want an estimate. If they mention overflow or leaks, offer a rep visit, but don't criticize the other company's work over the phone.
