Each sale is small and repeats. This manager is judged less on one big month than on customers who stay, and on whether the teams have room for them.
Two kinds of selling under one roof
Homeowners ask for quotes by web form, phone or chat and want a price fast. Partner accounts, such as apartment managers and listing agents, take visits and follow-up over months. The manager staffs both. They set how fast a web request gets an answer, and make sure reps out visiting partners don't leave new requests waiting.
Prices are really team hours
A cleaning price is a promise about team time: how many housekeepers, for how long. The price sheet should match real clean times from the booking software, by home size, condition and service. When quoted and actual hours drift apart, teams run late or margins shrink. The manager also sets the first-clean price, frequency discounts and who may go below them.
Sell the days the teams have open
Recurring customers fill set days in set neighborhoods. A new Tuesday customer across town from every Tuesday team adds drive time to a whole route. Each week the manager meets the operations manager or branch leads to see open slots by day and area. Reps get pointed toward those slots, and a full branch keeps a waitlist.
An early cancel isn't a win
Some new recurring customers quit after a clean or two. Look for the cause: a price, a promise or a first visit that missed what they expected. The manager counts the new customers still booked a few months later, for every rep and every lead source. Part of the reps' commission may depend on it. Put those rules in writing and agree on them with the owner before reps start.
Calling lists follow Do Not Call rules
Calling past one-time customers and old quote requests can win back work. But sales calls to consumers fall under Do Not Call rules set by the FTC and the FCC. A number listed on the national registry can still get a call within 18 months of the person's last purchase or three months of an inquiry, unless they ask you to stop. Most sales calls to businesses are exempt. Keep an internal list of people who asked not to be called. Source: FTC: Q&A for telemarketers and sellers about DNC provisions in the TSR.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Has led a team that sells by phone and in person, and coached reps by listening to calls
Ties every quote to the team hours behind it and holds that price
Spots the branch or lead source bringing in customers who cancel early
Works out capacity with branch and operations leaders without a turf fight
Opens doors with property managers and leasing offices personally
Teach these on the job
Your service menu and what each clean includes
Clean-time standards by home size in your software
Each branch's territory and team schedule
Your CRM, quote tool and call tracking
Which property managers and agent offices already send you work
Reports from the CRM and booking system are the manager's dashboard: quote requests, booked first cleans, recurring starts and early cancels by branch. Call tracking shows which ads and partners bring in calls. Ask candidates which of those reports they have built before, and be honest about which ones you still lack.
House cleaning sales manager interview questions
They have their own page: 6 questions that test this job, what strong and weak answers sound like, and a work exercise to run with your finalists.
Branches serve different markets, so set goals per branch and add them up. Read the results by quarter, since one busy holiday month or a slow January can mislead.
Revenue growth per quarter
Quarterly revenue against that quarter last year. For this role, focus on revenue from customers sold in the past year, so price increases on long-time accounts don't hide a slow sales team.
New customer acquisition
Define an account before counting: a new recurring household, a new partner such as a leasing office, or both on separate lines. Count only accounts that have had a first clean.
Sales conversion rate
Booked first cleans divided by qualified quote requests, from the CRM. Split it two ways, lead source and how fast each request got a reply, since a slow reply can lose the job to the next company.
Customer Satisfaction Rating
Ratings from newly sold customers each month, by rep and by branch. If one rep's customers rate lower, listen to that rep's calls before blaming the teams.
When does a house cleaning company need a sales manager?
Look for quote requests that sit until the next day, several branches with their own territories, and nobody with time to visit property managers and agents. If the only gap is answering phones, another CSR or rep may be enough. A manager pays off when there are reps to coach and prices to protect.
How much does a house cleaning sales manager make?
Sales managers who work for building and home services companies earned a median of $99,910 a year ($48.04 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $73,930 and $143,320 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and bonus terms.
Should a residential cleaning sales manager sell office cleaning too?
Only if you build for it. Office cleaning is often done after hours, priced under a contract and bid against janitorial companies. It needs its own crews, the insurance limits clients ask for, and a sales process aimed at facility managers. Some residential companies stay with homes and pass office leads to a janitorial partner.
Who owns leads at a cleaning company, sales or marketing?
Marketing brings in the quote requests through the website, ads, reviews and mailers. Sales turns those requests into booked, recurring customers and courts partners directly. Both answer for what each new recurring customer costs. So they should settle together what a lead is and meet weekly. At a smaller company, a single person may cover sales and marketing for a while.
Where do good house cleaning sales managers come from?
Look at people who have led inside sales for another recurring home service, like pool cleaning, lawn care or pest control, or who ran a call center that sold by phone. Ask how they priced labor, coached reps and kept new customers from cancelling. The template calls for years of sales work in a service business and lists home cleaning experience as a plus.
