One cleaning sale is small, but a good one comes back every week or two. The rep's real job is turning a first visit into a standing appointment, priced so the team can finish on time.
Quotes by phone, walk-throughs when needed
Many customers want a price before anyone comes out. The rep prices from bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, pets, visit frequency and the last deep clean. A wrong fact means the team runs over or the customer gets a surprise bill. Big, very dirty or move-out homes get a walk-through. A plan signed in the customer's home may be covered by the Cooling-Off Rule, which the FTC enforces. If so, the rep leaves a written cancellation form, and the customer can back out until the third business day ends. Source: 16 CFR 429.1: The Cooling-Off Rule, seller duties.
The recurring plan is the real sale
New customers may begin with a one-time or deep clean. The rep calls the day after, while the home still looks good, and asks what the team missed. Make that right, then offer the recurring price, a set day and the frequency that fits: weekly, every other week or monthly. A rep who stops at the first clean leaves the bigger sale behind.
Leasing offices and agents send repeat work
Move-out and move-in cleans come from apartment communities, landlords and agents, and many land near month's end, when leases often turn over. The template has the rep find these partners through outreach and local events. A leasing office that likes your work can send jobs every month, so the rep visits, learns their checklist and keeps them posted.
Product claims count as marketing
Customers may ask what products the team uses. The FTC's Green Guides cover environmental claims in any form of marketing, not just ads, so a rep's words count too. Broad words like eco-friendly can mean many things to a buyer, and the Guides warn that few marketers can prove them all. Buyers likely read non-toxic as harmless to people and to the environment, so that word needs scientific proof or a clear limit. Reps repeat only the claims your marketing manager has cleared. Source: 16 CFR 260.1: Purpose, scope and structure of the FTC Green Guides.
Customers ask who will be in their home
Before booking, many customers ask who the housekeepers are, whether they are checked and insured, and who keeps the key. The rep needs your real answers: what your hiring checks cover, what your insurance and any bond pay for, and how keys are stored. If you don't carry a bond, the rep shouldn't call your teams bonded. One overpromise can turn a single problem into a lost customer.
How much house cleaning sales representatives make
The closest BLS group for house cleaning sales representatives is sales representatives of services. Sales representatives of services who work for building and home services companies earned a median of $29.31 an hour ($60,970 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s below the $69,990 median for sales representatives of services in all industries. About 40,700 of the 1,256,010 sales representatives of services in that survey work for building services companies.
The template mixes salary, commission on sales and quarterly bonuses. Some plans pay commission on a recurring customer only after the first few cleans, so reps earn more for customers who stay. Put that rule in the written commission plan.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Asks questions about the home before giving a price
Asks for the recurring plan, not just the one-time clean
Keeps up regular visits with leasing offices and agents
Logs each quote and follow-up before the day ends
Says plainly what a service leaves out
Teach these on the job
Your price sheet and how to estimate a home's cleaning time
What each of your services includes and leaves out
Your quote tool, CRM and e-signature steps
Which branches cover which areas, and which days still have room
Your guarantee, cancellation and key policies
The rep quotes in a CRM or the booking software's quote tool, often the same system the CSRs use, with call tracking that ties each call and text to its ad. On walk-throughs they build the proposal on a tablet or phone and send it for an e-signature. Tell candidates whether their leads mostly come from the website or from partners they will have to find.
House cleaning sales representative interview questions
They have their own page: 6 questions that test this job, what strong and weak answers sound like, and a work exercise to run with your finalists.
Track these for each rep every month, against that rep's own past months in the same branch. Keep partner work on its own line, since a leasing office that sends a stream of move-outs is one relationship, not a string of separate wins.
New Sales
Service packages sold each month, with recurring plans marked. Count a recurring sale once its first scheduled clean happens, so customers who cancel before the team arrives don't inflate the number.
Customer Satisfaction Rating
Ratings from the first month of service in homes this rep sold. Look for comments about things the customer thought the price included.
Conversion Rate
Closed sales divided by consultations, from the CRM. Keep phone quotes and walk-throughs on separate lines, since a walk-through usually happens later in the customer's decision.
Leads Generated
Qualified leads the rep found, not ones the website handed them: partner introductions, event sign-ups and referrals. Agree first on what qualified means, such as inside your service area and asking for a service you offer.
Does overtime apply to a house cleaning sales rep?
Often it does, because so much cleaning is quoted by phone. Under federal law, outside sales means the rep's main job is selling and they regularly work away from the employer's place of business. Sales by phone, mail or internet don't count, and a home office counts as a place of business. A rep who regularly closes sales on walk-throughs may fit. One quoting by phone from home doesn't, though another exemption might. Look at your state's wage rules as well, and ask an employment lawyer before you set pay.
How much does a house cleaning sales representative make?
Sales representatives of services who work for building and home services companies earned a median of $29.31 an hour ($60,970 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $45,780 and $78,150 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and overtime.
Who should quote new customers, a CSR or a sales rep?
Smaller cleaning companies may have the CSR quote and book the first clean on the same call. A separate rep makes sense when quote requests wait too long, when partners need regular visits, or when CSRs are too busy with current customers to follow up. Either way, keep one price sheet so a caller hears the same price from anyone.
What should a rep learn about cleaning before selling it?
Send them out with a team for a few days: a recurring visit, a deep clean and a move-out. They will see what eats time, like baseboards, blinds, ovens and pet hair, and which jobs your teams don't take. Quotes get more accurate, and reps stop promising work the team won't do.
How should a rep follow up on a quote that didn't book?
Reach out the next business day, the same way the customer reached you. Offer a specific day and time slot instead of asking whether they have decided. Try a few times over a couple of weeks, then stop. Mark anyone who asks not to be contacted, so nobody on the team calls them again.
