When rain moves a house wash and the customer cancels, or a roof quote sits unanswered, an exterior cleaning rehash specialist is the one who follows up. They call, text and email, fill open slots on streets the crews already serve, and check each state's calling rules before anyone dials.

Most house wash and roof quotes stall over the weather, the price or a plan to do it themselves, and a well-timed call can answer each one. Since the house doesn't change size, an old quote is often still close.
Rain cancellations are this week's leads
When rain moves a wash, most customers take the new date, but some cancel or stop answering. Those homeowners already chose you and only lost the day. The specialist calls them within days, before another company's truck turns up on their street, and offers the first open slot near a booked route. Tag each one, so the CFO can see how many rained-out jobs came back.
The rented pressure washer
A common lost lead says they'll do it themselves. Some manage, and some can't reach the second story, leave stripes in the driveway or quit halfway. A friendly call a few weekends later, asking how it went, often reopens the door. Never poke fun at the attempt. Offer the parts they couldn't do, like the roof, the upper walls or the gutters.
Fill the street before the map
Each afternoon the specialist checks the next day's routes for gaps, then works old quotes on those streets first. An open hour beside a booked house costs almost no drive time, so the sales manager may allow a route-day price for it. A neighbor who never asked for a quote isn't a rehash lead, though. Reach them with a door hanger from the crew, not a call.
In North Dakota, a quote isn't a relationship
Under the FTC's rule, a quote request lets a seller phone a registered number for three months. North Dakota's law is stricter. Its business-relationship exception needs a purchase, rental, lease or other financial transaction in the past 24 months, so a homeowner who was only quoted falls outside it, and its sales calls include texts. Once a quoted number has been on the state or national list for 31 days, keep it off the call sheet unless the homeowner gave written permission. Source: North Dakota Century Code chapter 51-28: Telephone solicitations.
The old measurements still work
A house wash or roof quote rests on measurements that rarely change, so the specialist can often requote during the call. First ask what's different: a new roof, fresh paint, a new composite deck, or a fence that wasn't there last year. Chemical and fuel costs move, so requote from the current price list, not last year's number.
How much exterior cleaning rehash specialists make
The closest BLS group for exterior cleaning rehash specialists is telemarketers. Telemarketers who work for administrative and support services businesses earned a median of $16.10 an hour ($33,490 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s below the $35,450 median for telemarketers in all industries. About 39,850 of the 58,430 telemarketers in that survey work for administrative and support services businesses.
The template pays a salary, bonuses on conversion and revenue targets, and commission on revived revenue. Rain cancellations are easy wins next to an old quote the specialist pried loose, so decide up front whether both earn the same commission.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Reopens a stalled quote with a question about the house, not a discount
Knows which old quotes are past their calling window before dialing
Answers a reply within minutes, even in the middle of a call list
Writes short texts and emails that sound like a person, not an ad
Tags each lead with the reason it stalled: rain, price, timing or doing it themselves
Teach these on the job
Your services and how each surface gets cleaned
Your current price list, and which saved measurements still hold
Federal calling rules and those of each state you serve
Reading tomorrow's routes for open slots
What your crews do to protect plants, cars and windows
Give the specialist the field software's lost-quote and rain-cancel reports, with each first visit's measurements and photos attached, plus a view of tomorrow's dispatch board. Have the dialer and texting tool block any number your lists rule out, so nobody has to remember.
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Cross-selling honestly
A past house-wash customer is due again. Their notes show black streaks on the roof. How do you bring it up?
A strong answer: Mentions it as an observation from the crew, explains the option and price, and accepts a no.
Behavioral · Persistence
Tell me about a time follow-up won you business others had given up on.
A strong answer: Explains the timing, what new reason or option they offered, and why the customer booked.
Read these each week beside the weather log. A wet week grows the rain-cancel list and slows bookings at the same time.
Re-engagement conversion rate
Lost quotes and canceled jobs that became washed jobs, divided by the leads the specialist reached. Keep rain cancellations, do-it-yourself leads and price objections on separate lines.
Additional revenue generation
Invoiced revenue from revived leads each month, after any re-wash credits. Note how much came from add-ons the first quote never had, such as a roof or the gutters.
Callback response time
Minutes from a lost lead's reply, call or text to the specialist's answer. Report evenings and weekends apart, when nobody may be at the desk.
Customer satisfaction rating
Survey each revived customer after the wash. Read rain-rescheduled jobs apart from the rest, because a customer moved twice may be scoring the wait, not the wash.
Can the specialist text old quotes instead of calling?
It depends on the consent you hold. FCC rules treat two kinds of autodialed text differently. One about a booked wash, like a rain reschedule, needs the customer's prior express consent. One that sells, like an open slot offered to a customer who canceled, needs prior express written consent. A stop reply ends either. The FCC took up changes to how consent can be revoked in September 2026, so check the current rule before a campaign.
How much does an exterior cleaning rehash specialist make?
Telemarketers who work for administrative and support services businesses earned a median of $16.10 an hour ($33,490 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $28,770 and $37,420 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and overtime.
What should the specialist say to a homeowner worried about their plants?
Be specific about what the crew does, and honest about the limits. Walk them through the plant-protection steps in your written job routine instead of improvising, and offer the names of nearby customers who agreed to be references. Never promise that nothing can go wrong. If the worry is a roof above a prized garden, book a sales rep's visit to look at what grows under the drip line.
Why does the rehash template mention carrying cleaning equipment?
It lists "Capacity to occasionally lift and transport small cleaning equipment (up to 20 lbs)." On a visit, that might mean a bag of door hangers, a yard sign or a display board. If your specialist never leaves the office, strike that line from your copy before posting. Either way, describe the task in the ad and invite accommodation requests.
When is rehash work busiest at an exterior cleaning company?
Its busiest days follow the weather more than the calendar: the morning after a rained-out week, when the cancel list is longest, and the last dry weeks before the first freeze, when homeowners who waited all summer finally decide. Before spring, work last year's quotes once the list has been checked against the registry. In the slow months, clean the lists and drop anyone who asked not to be contacted.
Should the specialist visit lost leads in person?
Only by appointment. The template mentions in-person visits, and a time the homeowner agreed to is a visit they asked for. Knocking unannounced on an old lead's door can fall under a city's door-to-door permit rules, which the sales manager tracks. Most visits go better with a sales rep along, who can measure and requote on the spot.
