A handyman services sales representative visits homes to price long repair lists and small projects, then writes a scope a technician can finish without guessing. They close the job on site or follow up, and check back with the customer after the work is done.

A handyman rep prices a list of small fixes more often than one big project, and walks through rooms where hidden damage and safety issues show up. Here is what that changes.
A scope the tech can finish in one trip
A line like "fix bathroom door" sends the tech out with the wrong parts. Photograph each task, measure it, and note the materials, the wall type, the ladder height needed and where to park. List the hinges, latch or trim the tech should bring. A clear scope also lets dispatch size the visit and the customer see exactly what they're paying for.
Water stains can hide mold
A stained ceiling or soft drywall can mean a leak that's still active. EPA's home guide says to fix the water problem first and dry wet areas within 24 to 48 hours. When mold covers more than about 10 square feet, it points to EPA's remediation guide, and porous materials like ceiling tiles and carpet may need to go. Quote the leak repair first, and refer bigger mold jobs to a contractor with mold experience. Source: U.S. EPA: A brief guide to mold, moisture and your home.
Blind cords in homes with young children
CPSC says the safest choice when young children are present is cordless window coverings. For corded ones that stay, it advises anchoring continuous-loop cords to the floor or wall and setting cord stops within 1 to 2 inches of the head rail when the blind is lowered. It warns that most blinds sold before November 2000 have inner cords a child can pull into a loop, and says to replace them. Offer cordless options when you quote blinds in a family home. Inspection repair lists come with a closing date
Sellers and their agents send home inspection reports with a list of repairs the buyer wants done before closing. Ask for the report pages and the deadline, then quote each item using the report's own numbering so the agent can match line to line. Flag items that need a licensed trade right away, since those take longest to schedule and can hold up the sale.
How much handyman services sales representatives make
The closest BLS group for handyman services sales representatives is sales representatives of services. Sales representatives of services who work for residential builders and remodelers earned a median of $30.84 an hour ($64,150 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s below the $69,990 median for sales representatives of services in all industries. About 25,710 of the 1,256,010 sales representatives of services in that survey work for residential builders and remodelers.
Reps here tend to earn a base plus commission on sold or completed work. The template's base sits below the BLS median here, so the commission plan drives a rep's total pay.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Hands-on knowledge of common home repairs, enough to scope them
Clear written estimates with photos and measurements
A calm, no-pressure manner inside customers' homes
Prompt follow-up on every open quote
Comfort pricing from a price book on a tablet
Teach these on the job
Your task prices, minimum visit charge and trip fee
Jobs that go to a licensed partner in each territory
Warning signs of water damage, mold and old paint
Your CRM and estimating app
Product safety basics for blinds, railings and grab bars
Reps build quotes on a tablet or phone in the company's job software (ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro or similar). Their kit is a moisture meter, a stud finder, a flashlight and a tape measure, and the meter helps size water damage before a drywall quote goes out.
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Running an estimate visit
At an estimate visit, the homeowner shows you a list of [12] items, from loose railings to a bathroom update. How do you handle the visit?
A strong answer: Walks every item, measures and photographs, separates quick fixes from projects, flags work that needs a licensed trade, and gives clear prices or ranges and timing.
Behavioral · Closing after an objection
Tell me about a homeowner who first said no to a repair you recommended and later booked it. What changed their mind?
A strong answer: Found the real objection, such as cost or timing, explained the risk of waiting honestly, offered options and let the homeowner decide.
The template's targets assume a certain mix of quick fixes and projects. Set each rep's goals from a few months of their own closed and finished jobs.
New Sales Closed
Signed estimates per month by rep, from the CRM. Count a job once even if it splits into two visits, and remove jobs that cancel before work starts.
Proposal Acceptance Rate
Accepted estimates divided by estimates sent, by rep and job type. Track partial approvals on their own, since homeowners often approve part of a list.
Customer Satisfaction Rating
Average post-job rating on the rep's sold jobs. Read it next to notes from the follow-up call to see whether the scope matched what the customer expected.
Revenue per Deal
Total of final invoices on finished jobs divided by the number of those jobs, by rep. Final invoices catch work added or dropped on site.

Should a handyman sales rep come from the trades or from sales?
Either can work. A former handyman scopes well and earns trust fast but may price too low or skip the follow-up. A sales hire closes and follows up well but needs ride-alongs with a lead handyman to learn how long tasks take. Test both kinds of candidate with a mock walk-through of a real list.
How much does a handyman services sales representative make?
Sales representatives of services who work for residential builders and remodelers earned a median of $30.84 an hour ($64,150 a year) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $47,110 and $95,580 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and overtime.
Should a handyman rep give the price during the visit?
Yes, for tasks in the price book. Customers expect it, and a price on the spot closes more small lists. Send a written quote later for items that need special-order parts or a licensed partner's price, and tell the customer when it will arrive.
How should a rep quote a list that mixes quick fixes with a bigger project?
Split it into two quotes. The quick fixes go on one visit the customer can book this week. The project, such as a deck rebuild or a bathroom refresh, gets its own scope and start date. That way a slow decision on the big job doesn't hold up the easy ones.
What do the rep template's walking, lifting and confined-space lines mean?
The template keeps its wording. Day to day, that means walking through a house and yard, standing at a vanity or window while measuring, carrying a ladder, a tool bag or sample boards up to 25 pounds, measuring decks, fences and gutters outdoors, and looking into attics and crawl spaces through access openings with a flashlight. If a finalist needs an accommodation, talk it through with them.
How should a handyman rep follow up after the work is done?
Call or text once the job closes, go through each line on the quote, and ask whether anything was missed. Log any issue for the office so the tech can return. Ask every customer for a review the same way, whether the visit went smoothly or not.
