A flooring marketing manager fills the showroom and the measure calendar with ads, sample offers, financing promotions and photos of real installs. They check each claim, from waterproof to no interest, against the maker's warranty or the lender's terms, and follow each source through to installed floors.

Most people shop for a new floor slowly. They order samples, visit the showroom, hold boards up next to the cabinets, then book a measure. Builders, store programs and general contractors send the rest of the work without seeing an ad.
Count the leads ads can reach
Builder houses, store program installs and commercial bids can fill much of a flooring calendar. Little of that work starts with an ad. So report marketing's numbers only on what ads can move: homeowner measures, showroom visits and sample orders, split by floor type. Otherwise one busy builder month makes a weak campaign look strong. Builder and commercial wins belong in sales results instead.
Samples are the first appointment
Many shoppers start by ordering samples online or taking boards home from the showroom. Treat each sample request as a lead with a room and a floor type attached. Have a CSR or a rep follow up once the samples have spent a few days in the house, and track how many requests turn into a measure. A sample program that never reaches the measure calendar is only postage.
Waterproof means spills, not floods
Waterproof is a common headline on vinyl and laminate. The warranty behind it is narrower. Shaw's residential waterproof laminate warranty, for one, covers everyday spills only while the water doesn't run past the edges of the room or cut boards. It leaves out floods and standing water from leaking pipes, faucets or appliances. So skip flooded-kitchen photos and words like flood-proof, and check each ad against the warranty for the exact product pictured. Showroom signs count as credit ads
Under Regulation Z, a sign on the sample wall or a tag on a carpet roll that promotes a store card is an ad, and so is a web page. Some cards waive interest only if the balance is cleared by a set date. Then every "no interest" claim needs "if paid in full" and the promo length beside it. Near the first claim, add the catch: miss the payoff date and interest is charged from the day of purchase. Merchants carry these duties, not only lenders. How much flooring marketing managers make
Marketing managers who work for building finishing contractors earned a median of $106,040 a year ($50.98 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s below the $166,790 median for marketing managers in all industries. About 240 of the 395,240 marketing managers in that survey work for building finishing contractors.
Salary plus a campaign bonus, per the template. Its top salary lands between the lower quarter and the middle of what BLS reports for this role among building finishing contractors. Pay the bonus on floors installed and paid, not on sample requests, which are cheap to pile up.

Skills to hire for, and what you can teach
Hire for these
Knows how people shop for floors, from sample to showroom to measure
Reads a warranty or install guide before turning it into ad copy
Places financing disclosures where Regulation Z puts them
Follows a lead from sample request to measure to installed job
Directs photos that show a floor's true color and grain
Teach these on the job
The makers and collections you carry, and their warranties
Which lenders and makers must approve an ad first
How store programs and builders bring in work without ads
Matching leads by source to invoices in your flooring software
When each crew type has room for a promotion
Expect a website with product pages and a room visualizer such as Roomvo, online sample ordering, call tracking, a Google Business Profile per showroom, and the CRM or flooring software where measures and jobs live. Ask finalists which of these they set up themselves, since a visualizer or sample cart pays off only when each request reaches the CRM with its source.
Flooring marketing manager interview questions
Two of the 6 questions we'd ask, and what a strong answer sounds like. Ask every candidate the same questions, and rate each answer on your own before you compare notes.
Situational · Commercial growth
The owner wants more commercial flooring work. Where do you start?
A strong answer: Targets contractors, property and facility managers, builds a capabilities sheet and references, and tracks commercial leads separately.
Behavioral · Profitable campaigns
Tell me about a campaign that brought in flooring jobs with good margins, not just leads. What made it work?
A strong answer: Gives numbers on leads, sales and margin, and explains why it worked.
A shopper may order samples one month and sign the next, so read each month's leads against the jobs booked over the weeks that follow. The template's lead and ROI targets suit some markets better than others, so let your CRM history set them.
Lead Generation
Measure requests, showroom quotes and sample orders from homeowners inside your service area, each tagged with a room, a floor type and a source. Count a household once, however many samples it orders.
Brand Engagement
Saves, shares and comments per post, this quarter against last, which is how the template frames it. Tag posts by floor type and room, and see which ones come before a measure request.
Campaign ROI
Gross profit on installed floors traced to a campaign, over everything the campaign cost, sample boards and postage included. Use profit rather than sales, because a big hardwood order can carry a thin margin.
Customer Conversion Rate
Booked projects as a share of qualified leads, by source and floor type. Count a booking once the deposit is in and the final measure is done, so canceled or resized jobs don't inflate it.
Career path
Showroom design consultantHelps shoppers pick floors and learns which questions come up before every sale.
Marketing coordinatorPosts install photos, ships sample orders and keeps listings and promotions current.
Marketing managerRuns ads, samples, financing promotions and lead tracking for the company.
Marketing directorPlans marketing for every branch and hires the people who run it.
Can a flooring company advertise free installation?
Yes, as long as the install is truly free. The FTC's free-offer guide says a buyer may expect you not to win back the install cost. That means no higher price on the floor and no lesser product, such as a thinner pad. Put the conditions right with the offer: a room or square-foot minimum, which floors qualify, and whether tear-out, stairs or furniture moving cost extra. An all-in price per room is often an easier claim to defend.
How much does a flooring marketing manager make?
Marketing managers who work for building finishing contractors earned a median of $106,040 a year ($50.98 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $78,220 and $134,600 a year. Pay also depends on your local market, experience and bonus terms.
What should a flooring website show shoppers?
Pages by room and need, not only by brand: kitchens, basements, stairs and homes with large dogs. Show your own installs of each floor type in daylight, list the brands you carry, and let shoppers order samples or book a measure from every page. A room visualizer helps people narrow the choices, but expect them to ask for a sample at home anyway.
How should a flooring company photograph finished floors?
Shoot right after the crew finishes, before furniture and rugs go back. Use daylight, or turn off any lights that tint the room, so the floor's color matches the sample a shopper will hold. Take a wide shot, a close one of the grain or texture, and one of a stair or a transition, since shoppers look for those. Ask the homeowner first, since it's their house on your website, and caption each photo with the product and color from the order.
Which tasks hide behind the template's vision and stamina line?
Leave the template line as is and put the real work beneath it: proofreading ads and price tables on screen, checking photo color against the real sample boards, staffing a home show table, and walking a finished job to shoot photos. Candidates then see the actual demands, with no comment on their bodies. Give a name for accommodation questions.
